New Small SUV Chevy Trax Will Not Be Available Stateside

The US has been snubbed on another micro-SUV with Chevy’s new and good-looking Trax model. Soon to be released at the Paris Auto Show, the small Chevrolet crossover will be available throughout the world but not in the US where the Trax originated. It’s seems even other North American countries like Mexico and Canada will also get the pleasure of this versatile crossover.

“The Trax provides Chevrolet an entry into a growing small SUV segment and delivers the flexibility, great fuel economy and car-like handling that urban explorers around the world require,” remarked Mary Barra, GM’s chief global product planner.

Unfortunately, Chevy seems to have forgotten that the United States has its fair share of “urban explorers” who might also like a crack at the new Trax. The outstanding fuel economy would also be extremely tempting to SUV drivers. One reason why GM may be hesitating on offering this model  is due to its current SUV offerings that include the popular Chevy Equinox .

“Because of the strong position of the Equinox, there are no plans to introduce the Trax in the U.S. market,” said General Motors when it announced the Trax.

Details on the Trax’s powertrain and other features will be announced at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September.

Modified Chevy Camaro ZL1 Bests 200 Miles Per Hour

More and more American automakers are cranking out performance vehicles with ridiculous amounts of power that will never be needed in conventional driving. While your average driver probably won’t come anywhere close to reaching 200 miles per hour, it is an incredibly awesome feat. Aftermarket gurus Lingenfelter Performance Engineering have taken the Camaro ZL1 to the next level with three new upgrade packages which take the standard supercharged 6.2-liter V8 to north of 700 horsepower.

After Lingenfelter had developed these performance upgrades they took the liberty of outfitting an early production ZL1 with 720 horsepower and clocking some track times. A blistering 10.79 second quarter mile time at Muncie Dragway in Albany, IN was recorded and after the powered-up muscle car reached 202 miles per hour. This video shows footage of what it feels like to sit in the cockpit of a car capable of breaking 200 miles per hour or roughly 296 feet per second:

Chevy Sonic Takes On Street Art

Chevrolet has recently teamed up respected street artist Jeff Soto to unleash the potential creativity within the Chevy Sonic. Using a specially modified Sonic which has a robotic arm installed in the trunk and a tennis ball launcher attached to the top, Jeff set out to create a new form of assisted street art.

Chevrolet Planning For New Impala SS

When Chevy introduced the Impala in 1958 it became one of the first ever muscle cars and sported the “Super Sport” or “SS” badge which signified an elite level of performance. For the last few years however Chevrolet has discontinued the Impala SS model and focused on smaller cars like the Sonic and Cruze which appeal to younger, more fuel-conscious customers.

Recently, spy pictures have surfaced via the internet which show a car that may be Chevy’s new 2013 Impala SS. These pictures show a sculpted muscular front fascia with a more modern interpretation of this classic American icon. Autoblog.com who first broke the story says that GM could very well be outfitting this brawny Impala with a nasty LF3 twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 which would pump out around 380 horses. Since that much power would be hard to put down with front wheel drive so AWD might be in the works.

New Ad Campaign Shows Chevy’s Fun Side

Recently, American manufacturer Chevrolet has released a quirky series of online commercials featuring a goofy dealership team known as Under The Blue Arch. Under The Blue Arch follows a handful of interesting characters who have nerf gun fights, draw caricatures of each other, and say things like “take a knee”.

This collection of 20-ish second long skits can be found on YouTube and were directed by Randall Einhorn, who is one of the directors of the hit comedy The Office and actor Wayne Wilderson (who appeared on the Office in 2006) is one of the returning characters in Under The Blue Arch. Joel Ewanick, GM’s Chief Marketing Officer says Chevy has so much material that they have “talked about turning this into an actual show.”

You be the judge. Do you like this new advertising angle from Chevy?

2013 Chevy Spark Brings Relief From The Pump

Customers gearing up to buy the upcoming 2013 Spark minicar should know that Chevy is doing everything in its power to simplify the buying experience. Three unique trim levels will be available starting at the affordable price of $12,995 including destination.

Sporty and well-mannered with room for four passengers, this five door micro-hatch takes modern styling cues from its older brother, the Chevy Sonic. Unlike other minicars, the Chevy Spark is actually usable for real people and can go more than 60 mph. Also featured on this capable vehicle are 10 standard air bags and MyLink connectivity system.

“With the Spark, Chevrolet has the opportunity to connect with a new generation of car buyers who expect more from every product they purchase,” said Chris Perry, vp of Chevrolet Global Marketing. “So we wanted to make the process of choosing a Spark as simple as possible by reducing the number of stand-alone options and providing more standard content to each trim level at a competitive price.”

The below video will shed more light on the Spark:

Chevy Takes Aim At Ford With 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE Performance Package

It seems that more and more manufacturers are focusing on weekend warriors who are interested in a daily driver that they can also take to the track once the work-week is over. Chevy is now offering a special 1LE Performance Package on its 2013 Camaro SS trim level which will take the sports car from quick to elite speeds.

Chevrolet has already been quick to point out that this performance package is “one of the most affordable, most capable track-day cars offered by any manufacturer.” With a price that will be under $40,000, Chevy has already taken a step in the right direction.

Features included on the 1LE package are monotube rear shocks, larger front and rear stabilizers, upgraded rear axle and strut tower brace to start with. Chevy has also lifted some components from their ZL1 such as 20” wheels which get 10-spokes and black aluminum. Drivers will truly feel like pro racers when they step into the Camaro 1LE’s cockpit which is outfitted with a flat-bottom steering wheel and short-throw shifter.

GM Brings 2013 TrailBlazer To Market But Not For US

The 2013 Chevy TrailBlazer is a good looking car. There’s no way around that. With obvious redesigns that have streamlined and modernized the body styling, this SUV looks simply smashing.

2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer

For those of you reading this from within US borders, this will probably be about as close as you get to a new 2013 TrailBlazer. Chevy spokesman Tom Wilkinson reportedly told Autoblog that “There are currently no plans to bring that vehicle [Chevy TrailBlazer] to the U.S.”.

To add some more pain to the equation, GM has announced that the utility will have plenty of interior and performance improvements to go with the new exterior look. This three row SUV really shines underneath the hood where it will come with two turbo-diesel variants – both four cylinders with 2.5-liter and 2.8-liter displacements. How does 346 lb-ft of torque sound when equipped with the larger of the two engines?

The first country to get the new Chevy will be Thailand in June followed by the rest of the known world discounting the States. Reports also say that this TrailBlazer is stacked with safety features including ABS, stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution and more.

Chevrolet Will Introduce New Racecar for the 2013 NASCAR Season

For the past years, Chevrolet racing has consistently used the Impala body style as its go-to racecar but things are about to change. As of mid-March, Chevrolet has announced that they will introduce a new Team Chevy car which will be based on “a new nameplate to the brand’s lineup.”

“We are keeping the wraps on the new car for now and will continue to prepare for next season by testing camouflaged vehicles,” said Jim Campbell, vice president of Chevrolet Performance Vehicles and Motor Sports. “We know that Chevrolet fans are eager to see the new racecar and we hope that the prospect of being able to own one just like it will make the wait a little more bearable.”

Recently, the Chevy’s Impala racecar was driven by both Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson and has racked up 79 checkered flags. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been bested by Chevy five times including four wins by Johnson and one by Stewart.

“The Impala has been a critical part of Chevrolet’s success in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and we are confident the new racecar will allow us to remain the most successful name in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history,” remarked Campbell.

As for what this mystery car will be, only time will tell. Freedom Chevrolet will keep all readers current on the status of Chevys new racecar.

Watch A Corvette ZR1 and Camaro ZL1 Lap Virginia International Raceway

Two of Chevy’s most brutally powerful models, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and 2012 Chevy Corvette ZR1, were unleashed on Virginia International Raceway for some insanely fast hot laps. After these incredible machines hit the pavement, rubber was burned, engines were revved, and records were broken.
At 638 horsepower, the Corvette ZR1 is the ultimate American sports car at the moment and it certainly looked like it during the below footage. Ruthless acceleration, pinpoint handling, and a great engine sound make this Vette incredibly sought after. See more here:

Obviously you wouldn’t expect a Camaro to be able to compete with a full-blooded Corvette but don’t over look the ZL1 badge. While still slower than the Corvette (which set a VIR record), the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is plenty fast. Watch here to see how fast:
